Our History

Geggie Elementary School’s history is one of continuous growth.  When the school opened in January, 1965, it was a six-classroom and multi-purpose area facility.  A year later, the number of classrooms doubled.  By the end of the decade, Geggie was a sixteen-classroom school.  The 70s brought a media center and kindergarten classroom. The 80s meant eight additional classrooms, three areas especially equipped for the arts and physical education, and new offices.  In 1992 a beautiful media center was added, and the office area was renovated to include an inviting lobby and atrium.  In 2004 there was an expansion of our library media center.  In 2005 an oversized room was divided into two classrooms. The merge of the 2006 and 2008 bond issues resulted in the beautiful expansion of the entrance, office, and kitchen with  a much needed renovation of the lobby, nurse’s office, cafeteria, faculty lounge and teacher workroom.

While the building is one in which to take pride, the school’s legacy lies in its people.  Geggie’s unique name honors a prominent Eurekan and pioneer in suburban education, Robert T. Geggie, who served on the St. Louis County Board of Education during the early 1900s when several rural schools were consolidated to form the Rockwood R-VI District.

Under the current leadership, Principal, Mary Kleekamp, PhD., blends rich traditions of the past with innovative strategies and resources that facilitate learning for the future.
