The Rockwood Guidance Curriculum is student-centered, developmental, and sequential in nature. The Classroom Guidance component of the program allows counselors to interact with all students in our Geggie community. Guidance lessons are presented on a monthly basis at all grade levels. A sampling of specific grade level expectations includes:
Kindergarten:
- Identification of basic thoughts and feelings
- Identification of character traits
- Identification of skills necessary to work well with others
First Grade:
- Develop positive work habits to successfully meet school requirements
- Demonstrate the skills needed to be a friend
- Identify workers in the school and in families
Second Grade:
- Identify choices or solutions to problems
- Practice individual positive work habits
- Describe similarities and differences among students
Third Grade:
- Identify the consequences of choice and conflict by using a problem-solving model
- Identify the meaning of bullying / harassment and cite specific examples
- Learn basic organizational skills for work completion
Fourth Grade:
- Incorporate test-taking skills and study skills to enhance academic performance
- Apply effective problem-solving and decision-making skills to make safe and healthy choices
- Identify interpersonal skills necessary to build quality relationships
Fifth Grade:
- Demonstrate respect for peers and adults
- Demonstrate the ability to complete assignments accurately within a given time frame
- Develop an understanding of educational tasks and skills necessary to make a smooth transition to middle school
