2012-13 Test Dates

ACT 

The ACT will be administered to all juniors in Rockwood on April 24, 2012.  For more information on this special test date, click here.  Below are the national test dates for the upcoming school year:

  • September 8, 2012  (deadline:  August 17)
  • October 27, 2012  (deadline:  September 21)
  • December 8, 2012  (deadline:  November 2)
  • February 9, 2013  (deadline:  January 11)
  • April 13, 2013  (deadline:  March 8)
  • June 8, 2013  (deadline:  May 3)

Register online for all of the national test dates at ACT's website.  Be sure to pay attention to the registration deadlines to avoid paying late fees.  The LHS school code is 260-948.  Our test center code is 197820.

ACT PREP CLASS OFFERED:  Lafayette will offer an ACT prep course to 11th and 12th grade students to prepare for the October through June ACTs.  The course will be held over five weeks, meeting approximately 15 times. some zero hours and some evenings. There will be a required Saturday pretest and an evening Parent Information Meeting.  The cost is $125.  Registration forms are available in the Guidance and Counseling Office.

 SAT

  • October 6, 2012  (deadline:  September 7)
  • November 3, 2012  (deadline:  October 4)
  • December 1, 2012  (deadline:  November 1)
  • January 26, 2013  (deadline:  December 28)
  • March 9, 2013  (deadline:  February 8)
  • May 4, 2013  (deadline:  April 5)
  • June 1, 2013  (deadline:  May 2)

Register online at SAT's website.  Be sure to check the website to see which portions of the SAT are being tested on each test date.  The LHS school code is 260-948.  Lafayette is not an SAT test site.

Test Taking Tips

  • Read directions and questions for each test carefully     
  • Pace yourself                                 
  • Answer the easy questions first
  • Answer every question (no penalty for guessing)
  • Review your work
  • Take practice tests and review your responses
  • Get plenty of rest the night before the test
  • Have a wristwatch available (without an alarm)
  • Relax just before the tests. Take a few deep breaths, tense and relax your muscles, and think about pleasant things.
  • Be confident!

ACT Content Areas

ACT English Test

  • 75 questions include: punctuation {10}, grammar and usage {12},
  • sentence structure {18}, strategy {12}, organization {11}, and style {12})
  • Be aware of the writing style used in each passage
  • Examine the underlined portions of the passage
  • Be aware of questions with no underlined portions
  • Note the differences in the answer choices
  • Determine the best answer
  • Reread the sentence, using your selected answer

ACT Mathematics Test

  • 60 questions include: Pre-Algebra {14}, Elementary Algebra {10}, Intermediate Algebra {9}, Coordinate Geometry {9}, Plane Geometry {14}, Trigonometry {4}
  • If you use a calculator, use it wisely
  • Solve the problem
  • Make sure you answer the question
  • Make sure your answer is reasonable
  • Check your work

ACT Reading Test

  • 40 questions include: Social Studies {10}, Natural Sciences {10}, Prose Fiction {10}, Humanities {10})
  • Pace yourself (8+ minutes per passage)
  • Read the passage carefully
  • Refer to the passage when answering the questions

ACT Science Test

  • 40 questions include: biology, chemistry, physics and the earth/space sciences…Data Representation {15}, Research Summaries {18}, Conflicting Viewpoints {7})
  • Read the passage carefully
  • Note different viewpoints in passages
