Please phone office for messages requiring immediate attention at 636.207.2661, plus zero.

At Ridge Meadows Physical/Health education is a vital part of the total education program. The Physical Education staff is committed to helping develop a healthy, active child. The students in Full Day Kindergarten through grade five meet for physical education daily.  Half Day Kindergarten students meet twice a week. Through participation in Physical/Health Education activities and the utilization of technology, each student will become physically educated and health-literate. The students participate in activities, which will help them develop their motor skills, social skills, sport skills, and fitness levels.

Requirements

    1. All children must wear an appropriate athletic shoe for P.E. class. No platform shoes or shoes with heels.
    2. If your child is injured or ill, please send a note. (If your child will miss more than 3 days of P.E. due to medical reasons, please send a note from the doctor.)
    3. Students wearing dresses or skirts should wear shorts underneath for P.E. class.
    4. Students in grades 3-5 should have a health folder.

Tennis Shoes -- or Not?

Can I wear these shoes in P.E. today? This seems to be the most asked question. We realize tennis shoes have become quite a fashion statement these days, and we're glad. However, we are concerned for our students' safety and injury prevention. We ask for basic "non-skid" tennis shoes with a level sole. If the shoe has a heel or a "platform," it is probably not a good choice for class. No boots, please! To get the best support, we recommend students tie or Velcro close their shoes. Slip-on shoes and shoes without laces give little or no support. A good question to remember when purchasing shoes is, "Would I want to run a mile in these?" Or, "Can I change directions easily?"

Remember, every day is a P.E. day, so every day is a Tennis Shoe Day!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding physical education or health classes and activities, please contact your child's physical education instructor. We look forward to working with you.

Pumpkin Run

The Pumpkin Run is a one-mile fun run. Students must predict the length of time they think they'll need to complete the one-mile course. The student who comes closest to their predicted time is the overall winner.

Cross-Country Track Meet
The Annual Fourth and Fifth Grade Meet is held at either Marquette High School or Eureka High School in the month of October.

Road Runner Recreation Day
Ridge Meadows School will have field day. (Rain day will be scheduled.) All students in grades 1-5 will participate.

Fitness Test
Each student in grades 1 to 5 takes the Fitness Gram Physical Fitness Test. The goal of the Fitness Gram is to provide students with opportunities to have fun while learning fitness concepts and participating in activities which enhance fitness levels. This also lets each student know their areas of strength and if they need to improve in any areas. Components covered are:

(1) aerobic capacity
(2) body composition
(3) muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility

Did you know?

The Surgeon General has determined that lack of physical activity is detrimental to your health.

People who are usually inactive can improve their health and well-being by becoming even moderately active on a regular basis.

Physical activity need not be strenuous to achieve health benefits.

A person can achieve greater health benefits by increasing the amount (duration, frequency or intensity) of physical activity.
