Answer: All Rockwood schools are known as centers of academic excellence. However, we do offer the option of having a child attend a different attendance area. "Limited School Choice Request" forms are available at each school location. Yearly application is required, and approval is based upon available space. Transportation is not available. Q: What kind of programs are available in Rockwood for gifted students? Who do I contact for further information? View Answer
Answer: Rockwood provides a wide range of programs for students who are identified as gifted. At the elementary level, students attend the Center for Creative Learning one day per week and also receive gifted resource services at their home school. At the middle school level, students are offered a course titled Academic Stretch. Academic Stretch is paired in the block schedule with an accelerated Language Arts course. The middle schools also offer Challenge classes in all major content areas. At the high school level, gifted resource teachers support students in a variety of ways, including helping to plan their high school course of study, investigating summer and independent study opportunities, and supporting the college application process. Answer: The Rockwood Board of Education typically meets the first and third Thursdays of each month. The first session of the month is a workshop meeting, during which patrons may attend and address any issue on the agenda. At the second meeting patrons may comment on any subject.
