In Rockwood, we believe in environmental responsibility, and we're proud of the environmental accomplishments within the district.
Sweeping Changes for our Trash
By recycling paper, aluminum, plastic, metals and cardboard Rockwood is greatly reducing the amount of trash collected at our schools.

Curriculum on CDs
Several curriculum departments are producing their entire curriculum only on CDs. This has saved hundreds of reams of paper and binders. As an example, the science department alone has saved 330,000 pieces of paper by going with CDs this year, also producing huge financial savings to the district. Just as important, our surveys show that teachers prefer these CDs over binders.
Smarter Supplies
Schools need to provide a lot of supplies to classrooms. We are making a difference by providing environmental alternatives whenever possible. All plastic cups used for science have now been replaced by 100 percent biodegradable corn cups. Styrofoam is not an option for science supplies anymore- items are purchased in bulk and split up to save on packaging. The food service department is working to convert Styrofoam cups, plates and trays to biodegradable paper products. We will continue to buy only the most green items possible for our supplies in the future.
