The ACT assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The ACT Program is a comprehensive system for collecting and reporting information about students planning to enter post-secondary education. It consists of four major components: English, Math, Reading, and Scientific Reasoning. In 2011, the average Rockwood score of 24.1 outperformed the state average of 21.6.
In 2011, all Rockwood juniors completed the ACT. Rockwood offered the ACT college entrance exam during a school day at no cost to families to help students prepare for college and careers.

ACT also sets College Readiness Standards that indicate a high probability of student success in credit-bearing college courses—English Composition, Social Sciences courses, College Algebra and Biology. These standards are detailed, research-based descriptions of the skills and knowledge associated with what students are likely to know and to be able to do based on their EXPLORE, PLAN and/or ACT scores.
Forty-six percent of RSD students meet all four college readiness benchmarks, significantly outscoring the Missouri and national average.
