The Advanced Placement Program® (AP) is a cooperative educational endeavor among secondary schools and colleges and universities that provides high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses in a high school setting. Students who participate in AP gain college-level skills and may earn college credit while they are still in high school.
Every student receives an overall grade on the AP examination within a five-point scale: extremely well qualified-5; well qualified-4; qualified-3; possibly qualified-2; and no recommendation-1. A score of 3 indicates that students may receive college credit for the course.
In 2010-2011, Rockwood high schools offered 25 AP courses at our four high schools. Key findings from the 2011 Advanced Placement data for the class of 2011 include:
- The average AP score for Rockwood students was 3.66, compared to 3.06 statewide and 2.84 nationwide.
- 84.7 percent of exams taken by Rockwood students earned a 3 or better, compared to 64.8 percent at the state level.
- 88.7 percent of Rockwood students taking at least one AP exam scored 3 or better.
