Missouri Assessment Program (MAP)

Rockwood aligns its curriculum to Missouri state standards and frameworks.  The district sets clear parameters regarding what students should master at each grade level.  The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) is designed to indicate student mastery of these standards.

Missouri Assessment Program: Grade-Level Assessments (MAP)

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade Level Assessments are norm-referenced tests that student in grades 3-8 take annually in the spring in the areas of communication arts and mathematics.  In addition, students in grades 5 and 8 complete tests in science.  At the secondary level, students take required End of Course Exams (EOC) upon completing Algebra I and English II.

Results for these tests are categorized two ways:  (1) the percentage of students who are “advanced” or “proficient” and (2) the percentage of students who fall into the groups of “basic” and “below basic”.  The MAP test is a required component of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) that requires all schools, districts, and states to show that students are making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

In 2011, Rockwood School District scored above the state in the percentage of students “proficient” or “advanced” in both communication arts and mathematics on the Missouri Assessment Program Assessments.  This is true at each grade level. The chart below shows Percentage of Proficient Students taking MAP & EOC (grades 3-12)

While Rockwood outperforms the state, the challenge is to meet the ever-increasing Annual Year Progress rate.  In 2012-2013, that target is 90.8 percent of students scoring proficient or higher.

 Missouri Assessment Program: End-of-Course Exams

The Missouri Assessment Program End-of-Course (MAP EOC) Assessments are criterion-referenced tests that middle and high school students complete when Course-Level Expectations for a particular class have been covered.  EOC Assessments are given in English II, Algebra I, Biology and Government to fulfill the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the Missouri State Board of Education.  There are four other optional EOC assessments:  English I, Algebra II, Geometry and American History.

Rockwood students continue to exceed state averages on the required EOC assessments.  The score for mathematics and communication arts are shown on the previous page. The following charts indicate the achievement level of Rockwood students for the biology and government end of course exam.  As indicated below, Rockwood students, on average, outperform the rest of the state.

It is important to note that the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has not set performance targets for the Biology and Government EOC assessments.
