Homework Policy

An assignment sheet for weekly homework will be sent home each Monday. Completed homework should be returned on Friday with parent signatures. Students will be rewarded for returning completed homework on time. Students not returning their homework will work during a specially designated task completion period.

Students are expected to complete work on their own and ask for help only after they have given it their best effort. Most of the homework will cover material that the students have already been taught in class. Homework should not take more than 15 to 25 minutes to complete.

Help your child find a quiet place and time to work on homework. Please make homework a priority. If your child cannot complete a homework assignment, please send a note explaining the problem.

Students will be given praise and other incentives when homework is completed properly. If homework is not completed on a regular basis, you will be contacted so we can work together to make sure your child develops the study habits needed in later grades.

Reading List

Students should be guided to choose books at their reading level for independent reading. Books with a repeating text are excellent choices for beginning readers. A few good authors to look for are Robert Munsch, Marc Brown, Steven Kellogg, Patricia Polocco, Mercer Mayer, Gail Gibbons, and Dr. Seuss.
