The Rockwood School District has policies and regulations, approved by the Board of Education. Rockwood’s procedures and consequences, as well as an approved behavioral code for students, are the guidelines that allow for fairness and consistency as we serve our students and families.
These Rockwood policies and regulations can be found on the Board policy/regulation website.
All students enrolled in the Rockwood School District receive a student handbook that includes this information. It is distributed at the beginning of each school year and is to be shared with parents and guardians.
Additionally, our communication protocol for addressing concerns is as follows:
Step One: Talk with the teacher or guidance counselor at your child’s school.
Step Two: Contact your school principal and/or assistant principal.
Step Three: Contact the executive directors of elementary and secondary schools – or the members of superintendent’s cabinet.
Step Four: Share your concerns with the superintendent.
If your concern has not been resolved at those levels, citizens are invited to send a written request to the Board secretary to be filed with the Board of Education. Patrons may also call or e-mail Board of Education members or share a patron comment at a Board meeting.
How may patrons communicate with the Board of Education?
The Rockwood Board of Education welcomes public participation in meetings. The first meetingof the month is open for public comment on matters that are on the Board’s agenda. The second meeting of the month is open for patron comments on any subject. The requirements and limitations for addressing the Board of Education are as follows:
Patrons must indicate that they wish to address the Board of Education by completing a comment card and giving it to a Communications staff member prior to the start of the meeting.
Patrons must list their name, address, phone number and the agenda item or topic they wish to address on the comment cards, which are located by the entrance to the meeting room.
- Individuals are provided a maximum of three (3) minutes to address the Board.
- If several individuals are concerned with the same issue and share the same opinion, they are requested to select a spokesperson to represent the group.
- It is the policy of the Board to listen to patrons during this important part of the agenda. Individual board members do not address patrons who are speaking to the Board, except for issues of clarification.
