Rockwood and Parkway to Explore Community Education Partnership
The Rockwood and Parkway School District Boards of Education are looking at the possibility of combining Community Education efforts. The two districts want to know if a Community Education partnership could potentially better serve the long-term interests of both districts and patrons. Both districts currently operate separate Community Education programs that offer a variety of opportunities in areas such as sports, enrichment and visual and performing arts.

According to Rockwood Superintendent Bruce Borchers, “We have identified several existing advantages that support a potential partnership. Advantages include:

A shared belief in Community Education as a means to engage patrons in valuable experiences

A lack of direct competition between most existing programs

Areas of strength within each district’s existing programs that could potentially apply to the other district with limited startup time required.”

Parkway Superintendent Keith Marty also noted, “A partnership could provide for cost savings in administrative and other staffing costs. In addition, it could create economies of scale and result in an enhanced overall offering of programs and services for both district’s patrons.”

A recommendation will be presented to both Boards of Education this fall, at which time a decision will be made about whether or not to create the Community Education partnership.
