Rockwood is proud of its tradition of providing students with opportunities to connect learning from their classrooms to the outside world. Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, all district science adventure trips will now be administered by the Rockwood Community Education department through the Babler Outdoor Education Center. Each of these self-funded Trek and Travel trips is designed to maximize learning through concrete, experiential lessons aligned to district science curricula.
Smoky Mountains Adventure: Current fifth grade Rockwood students travel to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for an adventure-packed four days exploring the wilderness, searching for wildlife, learning about the environment and dveloping leadership skills.
Tetons Trek: Current Rockwood students in grades 6-8 travel to the Teton Science Schools in Jackson, Wyoming to explore the Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. This weeklong trek allows students to put their science skills in action as they learn about geology, ecology, weather and plant and animal adaptations.
