Parent Volunteer Appriciation Week
The CMS staff would like to thank each and every parent who spends time volunteering in our classrooms and the various activities we take part in each week.  Thank you for always being so wonderful in supporting your children and partnering with the Crestview staff.

It was also great to see so many of you here this past week to assist in hosting our annual Wellness Walk.  We were thrilled to see nearly half of our student body participate in the extremely fun event and the dozens of parents who volunteered throughout the past week to make this possible.

We continue to value your support.
Service Project
What an incredible time we had today with the students who stayed for the 3rd quarter Crestview service project!  It was so wonderful to see the students creating candy carrot holders with jelly beans for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery.  A huge thank you goes out to our two amazing parents,  Maria Saxon and Jennifer Pisarkiewicz, for putting together these opportunities for our students to give back to our local community.

We also want to thank you for the donations to our Backpack Program to help provide food to our students in need each weekend.  Your generosity is unbelievable, as we filled our entire office with donations for these Crestview children.  A huge thank you goes out to our Student Council for hosting the CMS vs. MHS/LHS basketball game to donate half the proceeds to our Backpack Program as well.
Student Accomplishments
We have had some really exciting accomplishments this past month here at CMS.  Our competitive math students are heading to state. We had 10 students recieve Dream Catcher Scholarships from the Rockwood Schools Foundation. Our students are striving to get as many community members, staff and incoming 6th graders to our Staff vs. Student basketball game on March 5th.

We would love to hear about your child's accomplishments in activities, clubs or organizations outside the school setting as well.  Please feel free to send these to me and I will be happy to add these to our blog.
CMS Going Green
This past week our Green Team at Crestview introduced the compost pile bins in our cafeteria.  It was amazing to watch our students fill the compost and recycle bins, as there was only a tiny bit of trash left in our waste baskets even after having 1200 students go through the cafeteria.  Hats off to Mrs. Schafer and our Green Team for their efforts to protect the earth.  A huge "thank you" goes out to the members of Green Team for doing the necessary research to make this possible for Crestview.
Serving others

During these past two weeks, there have been countless ways our students, community and staff members have reached out to lend a helping hand to others in the Crestview community.  Many of you participated in picking up paper snowflakes from the nurse’s office in order to donate or purchase an item for a family in need during the holiday season at CMS.  Others gave countless hours of time before and/or after school to help in various ways or volunteer in the classroom.  Others went out of their way to do home visits with Crestview families or bring dinner to students who never get a sit down family opportunity.  We were asked by community members to ring the bell outside a local grocery store to help serve our community and sing carols for those who passed by.  It is these opportunities that allow our hearts to be filled with joy of others and to give back for all those in need.  Thank you to everyone for all the hours of time and commitment you put in to thinking of helping our children be well rounded citizens filled with strong character and role models.

Student Accomplishments
Please share all the wonderful accomplishments your son/daughter has achieved over the summer.  (ie camp experiences, awards, honors, helping in the community)
What have you been reading this summer?
Welcome to my new blog.  I wanted to introduce a new post on what you might be reading over the summer.

I've been reading Hal Urban's Lessons from the Classroom to help teach our new staff how to start the year off on a positive note with our students....it's all about positive relationships with kids.

I have also been reading On Common Ground to help guide our school through the year while working in their professional learning communities.
