The Rockwood Administrative Leadership Development Program provides a unique opportunity for teachers who are interested in moving into the role of assistant principal and/or administrative intern. The purpose of the program is to identify future leaders who are serious about an administrative careet, and provide them with the opportunity to learn more about administration in a supportive environment.
The program will provide release time for monthly training sessions with practicing principals and District personnel on a variety of topics such as:
- Instructional Leadership
- School Improvement
- Curriculum Implementation
- School Climate
- Communication
- Professional Learning Communities
- Hiring Process and Interviewing
Participants will read and discuss pertinent books and articles related to the principalship. Discussions will focus on application of ideas presented during the "expert" presentations.
In addition to the above, each ALD participant will be assigned a "mentor," who is an experienced Rockwood administrator. The mentor will serve as a valuable source of information and counsel regarding the role of principal or other District administrative position. The ALD member is expected to complete four shadowing experiences with their assigned mentor during the school year, with release time provided. This opportunity will provide a realistic understanding of the day-to-day duties of the administrator.
A third component of the program will be to complete a quarterly administrative project under the supervision of the ALD member's building principal. The quarterly projects provide the ALD member with experience in carrying out administrative duties.
ALD members will be required to serve on a District committee while in the program and serve as a Rockwood summer school intern for at least three weeks during the summer.
The Rockwood Administrative Leadership Development Program is open to all Rockwood certified staff members who have completed three successful years of teaching, two of which are in Rockwood School District. Applicants must be enrolled in an administrative graduate program or hold administrative certification.
