National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT)

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) improves teaching and student learning. National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) are highly accomplished educators who meet high and rigorous standards.

As of 2011, 81 Rockwood teachers have earned NBCT.
Like board-certified doctors and accountants, teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review.  NBTS offer 25 certificates that cover a variety of subject areas and student development levels.  A National Board Teacher Certificate is valid for ten years with the opportunity to renew certification.  View Rockwood's list of National Board Certified Teachers.

Rockwood supports teachers pursuing National Board Certification with the following:
  • Scholarships available for up to 20 qualified applicants (via Title IIA funds)
  • Monthly cohort meetings
  • Access to video and microphone equipment
  • Certified Candidate Support Provider
  • Three sub days
  • Option to pursue graduate credit
