Program Overview:

Purpose: The purpose of the Teacher Leadership Development Program is to develop leadership skills among teacher leaders, to cultivate new teacher leaders, and to expand the influence of teacher leadership in the Rockwood School District.

Rationale: Teachers are often assigned to leadership positions without the knowledge and skills necessary to help them guide a team effectively.

Requirements:

  1. Completed three years successful teaching experience, one of which takes place in Rockwood School District.
  2. Demonstrates leadership qualities as recommended by building administrator and two colleagues.
  3. Serves currently in a teacher leadership position or preparing for a teacher leadership position in the near future.
  4. Shows evidence of professional growth.
  5. States in writing how participation in this program will enhance his/her leadership potential.
  6. States in writing how participation in this program has the potential to impact student learning.

Application Process:

  1. Applications will be available March 5, 2012.
  2. Application deadline is April 13, 2012.
  3. Applications will be scored by a review panel using a scoring rubric.
  4. Applicants will be notified by April 30, 2012.

Candidate Responsibilities:

  1. Notify building principal of acceptance into the program and of candidate responsibilities.
  2. Attend summer Teacher Leadership Development Academy in Rockwood School District.
  3. Attend school-year meetings with sub provided one day in: September, November, January, February, March, and April.
  4. Engage in Action Research Project over the course of the school year.
  5. Read and prepare to discuss various books/articles on leadership during the school year.

Opportunity for 3 hours graduate credit through Lindenwood University.
