Welcome to the

Rockwood Early Childhood

School Social Work

Home Page!

Our program has 3 social workers that serve all of the families in Rockwood with children ages birth to 5 years old:

  • Eren Taylor-Scaggs, MSW has been in the field for 13 years and has been in the Rockwood Early Childhood Program since 2006.
  • Kim Cowherd, LCSW has been in the field for 15 years and has been in the Rockwood Early Childhood Program since 2002.
  • Michelle Crain, LCSW has been in the field for 22 years and has been in the Rockwood Early Childhood Program since 2005

We have many responsibilities as social workers in the early childhood program and are here as a resource for you and your family.  Some of the things that we can help with are finding resources for families in need; providing support to families who may be having a hard time due to divorce, an illness or economic difficulties; and home visits to help parents deal with challenging behaviors at home.   Please click below on "Strategies to Help with Challenging Behavior" and "Resource List Bibliography" for resources and information.

We also have a food and clothing pantry that is available to families in our school community who are in financial crisis and need help.  If you are interested in learning more about this, then click on Food and Clothing Pantry on the left hand side of this page for more information.

We also spend time in each classroom and play fun games that are geared to improving social skills with all students.  This time is called Theraplay.  In Theraplay, we play games that will help students learn to take turns, share, solve problems, feel good about themselves, express feelings and learn to be a good friend.  This is a way we can help everyone learn our school rules, to take care of ourselves, each other, our school and our world.  These rules were developed as part of our program-wide Positive Behavior Support initiative.  Please click on Theraplay on the left hand side of this page for more information.  Then click on "Theraplay activity listing" in the downloads section for a list of activities we will be performing in the classroom with your child, but you can also do at home.

We welcome you to browse the downloads below and on subsequent pages at your convenience for additional information.
