Dear Ellisville Families,
The Character Education Partnership (CEP) has announced it will award 297 Promising Practices to schools, districts, and organizations from across the United States, as well as from Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, and Mexico. Winning practices were selected from a record-breaking 537 applications.
“These practices showcase so many creative and unique ways of dealing with challenges educators face each day,” said Lisa Greeves, manager of the Promising Practices program. “CEP is proud to recognize these educators and to give them an international platform upon which to share their hard work.”
Ellisville was recognized for TWO Promising Practices this year!!
Congrats to Ms. Strub for submitting Ballroom Dancing and Character Traits and Ms. Dittmer for submitting Ellisville Elementary Tiger Family Program! These programs benefit students across grade levels! Thanks goes to these creative and energetic teachers for taking the time to create and submit such worthy practices!!
Make it a great day!!
Allison

Dear Ellisville Parents,
As you know Ellisville was recognized as a 2012 Missouri School of Character in January, scoring high enough that our application was forwarded on for consideration for National School of Character. We had a site visit on the Tuesday after Spring Break. During the site visit students, staff, and parents were interviewed and a report was submitted to the Character Education Partnership.
I am EXTREMELY PROUD to announce that Ellisville Elementary has been named a 2012 NATIONAL SCHOOL OF CHARACTER! In the past eight years, the staff at Ellisville has been dedicated to character education growth. Our school community shined during each site visit! A quote from Penny Green, our last visitor, “This is the kind of school you want your grandkids to attend!” I can’t think of a higher compliment!
In November, our school will be recognized at the 19th National Forum on Character Education in Washington, D.C. I would like to thank our entire school community for always being supportive of our efforts, keeping students a priority, and investing in Ellisville Elementary!!
Have a wonderful day!!!
Allison

Dear Ellisville Families,
Ellisville students have been involved in a year long service learning project through Tiger Families this year! Tiger Families were created prior to the first day of school and include students from each grade level. Tiger Families are led by a staff member. Ms. Dittmer, our phenomenal music teacher, developed a program this year where each Tiger Family adopted a grandparent. Some of the grandparents reside at Delmar Gardens and Parc Provence, while others are actually grandparents of students or staff. Back and forth communication provided learning opportunities for our staff and students as well as our grandparents. It was a really a fun year-long experience for everyone involved.
On Tuesday the Tiger Families eagerly awaited the arrival of their adopted grandparents at school for a celebration! Ms. Dittmer taught our students popular songs through the decades that our grandparents would appreciate. The students performed by singing and dancing. A brave 2nd grader even sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to a crowd of 650 people. There were tears, smiles and hugs as the students finally met their adopted grandparent. The grandparents danced with kids and one another. This experience was priceless and truly showcased the character of Ellisville Elementary. Click on this link to view pictures of this celebration.
I would like to thank Ms. Dittmer for all her hard work in creating our Tiger Families, partnering them with an Adopted Grandparent and for making the implementation easy for our students and staff!!
Make it a Great Day!!

Dear Ellisville Families,
We are already planning for the 2012-2013 school year! If you want to give us some information on a teaching style that best fits your child(ren) please click on this link. Please be sure to fill the form out by the due date, April 27th, as we will work on placement in early May. There are many things that go into placement consideration and we will do our best to match your child with the right teacher. Please do NOT request a specific teacher. There have been several staffing changes this year due to retirement, enrollment numbers, and teachers requesting a grade level change.
I hope you all enjoy the extended weekend!

Dear Ellisville Parents,
On April 3, Rockwood Voters will be asked to go to the polls and vote on PropR - a NO-TAX INCREASE Bond Issue.
This bond issue will support three priority areas in Rockwood Schools:
« Technology
« Safety measures
« Infrastructure and maintenance of current facilities
As you know, Ellisville Elementary was built in 1938. We have had two major unexpected renovations in the past two years. The incredible staff and parents at Ellisville pulled together and student instructional time was protected during these unexpected moves.
With PropR, Ellisville Elementary would have a specific plan in place to improve the wing on Irene Drive. The bulleted list below includes specific ways in which PropR would support Ellisville Elementary.
« Upgrade existing structural, plumbing, mechanical and electrical
systems to the Irene Drive Wing
« Build two additional classrooms
« Replace sections of the roof
« Replace aged teacher and student computers
« Replace Smartboards and Projectors as needed
Please mark your calendar for April 3 and vote. Also take a minute and click on the following link to get some questions answered about PropR. http://www.rockwood.k12.mo.us/propr/Pages/default.aspx
Thanks,

Dear Ellisville Families,
I am proud to announce the 2012 Ellisville Teacher of the Year…Mrs. Mandy Rauckman! Mandy started out as a teacher assistant at Ellisville and has been teaching here for 8 years! Staff members nominate their colleagues for this special award and when the votes were counted Mandy’s name was at the top. Some specific examples of why Mandy was chosen are:
« Builds strong relationships with students, staff, and parents to help students learn (chaperone on the Smoky Mountain Trip, excellent communication throughout the year, and involves parents in every step of their child’s education)
« Spends an extraordinary amount of time after school, locating and/or creating new and motivating learning materials/activities to support/teach essential skills (Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, Scoot Review, Multiplication Power Towers)
« Mandy is a PLC Coach and a collaborative team player at Ellisville with all colleagues not just her grade level team and has been a cooperating teacher for 2 student teachers
« Mandy improves school community life by linking students, parents, and staff toward achieving a common goal (Variety Show Performance Judge, Teacher’s act at the Variety Show, Attends Trivia Night and donates items for the auction)
Way to go Mrs. Rauckman!!

Dear Ellisville Parents,
I am extremely proud to announce that Ellisville Elementary has been named a 2012 Missouri School of Character! Four dedicated Ellisville staff members, Mrs. Collom, Mrs. Hunn, Dr. Oliver, and Mrs. Shaw, wrote an excellent application highlighting detailed information about our school and how we incorporate the 11 Principles of Character Education into our daily school life. The application was submitted in December and we were notified in January that we were chosen for a site visit. The visitors were here on January 26th and spent time visiting classrooms, interviewing students, staff and parents, and walking around to get a feel for our school climate.
This morning I was notified that we have been named a “Missouri School of Character”. But, even more impressive, we were scored high enough to be considered for the “National School of Character” Award. Currently, we are waiting for details on that process and feedback from our evaluators. THANK YOU for being such an integral part of our school and for ALWAYS supporting our efforts at Ellisville Elementary! Kudos to the Ellisville Staff for modeling and teaching our students what true character feels like, sounds like, and looks like! Pat your children on the back tonight because they are the reason we infuse character into our daily lives at school!
Sincerely,
Allison Loy, Principal 1/13/2012
Rockwood Draft Vision Scorecard
January 2012
Rockwood’s Vision Scorecard is a performance management tool
that helps ensure the district is focused on our strategic priorities.
The scorecard is used to do the following:
• Align activities to the district’s vision and strategies
• Improve internal and external communication
• Monitor district performance and progress
Why a Vision Scorecard?
In Rockwood, we strive to be open and transparent with our parents, students and community. We believe our schools and students benefit from the interest and involvement of our community. The Vision Scorecard provides our community with helpful information about Rockwood’s efforts to continuously improve student achievement and overall district performance.
What is on the Rockwood Vision Scorecard?
The Vision Scorecard provides an at-a-glance view of the district’s progress toward achieving specific goals that support our mission and Strategic Plan. It includes four Strategic Focus Areas (as shown on the right column). Each area has key objectives with specific measures that identify the district’s current level of performance and our targets for 2012-2013.
Where can I find the Vision Scorecard?
The Vision Scorecard is located on the Rockwood School District website:
www.rockwood.k12.mo.us/aboutus/scorecard.
Let us know what you think.
The Vision Scorecard is a work in progress. Take a moment to review the information, and then complete a short survey by Feb. 3 to let us know what you think about this performance management tool.
It is important to realize that the Vision Scorecard will change as a result of stakeholder feedback and as new information becomes available. It is also important to know that scorecards are being developed at the school and department level during the 2011-2012 school year. The scorecards will include district-level measures, along with other performance indicators that enable us to focus our resources and improvement efforts on strategic priorities.
Do you have questions about the Rockwood Vision Scorecard?
