Procedures for Staying After School

Students and Parents: In order to better provide our students with a safe learning environment, please be informed that beginning second semester the procedures and consequences for after-school activities and after-school supervision will be strictly enforced. Please see below.

If you have any questions, please contact Steven Miller in the junior office.

After-School Activities Procedures and Consequences

All students who remain on campus after 3:30 pm must be in an area that is supervised by school personnel. This includes students who are taking part in an activity/club; students who are receiving after-school tutoring; students who are waiting for parental pick-up; and students who intend to utilize the library. (Any student who fails to comply will be subject to a specific set of consequences—see below)

Students cannot loiter or hang out in the commons until an athletic event starts. They must be accounted for in a supervised area or be on the 3:10 pm bus.

Students cannot leave campus and then return to catch the 4:30 pm or 6:00 pm activity buses.

Any student who utilizes the library after school and who is written up for a violation of library use procedures will be subject to a specific set of consequences—see below)

Students who stay after for individualized tutoring will be required to report immediately to the library, to another supervised club in which they participate, or to leave campus once the tutoring session is over. (Those tutored students who remain on campus to wait for an activity bus or to wait for parental pick-up will need to be given a pass to the library by the tutoring-teacher. However, no such pass will be needed for students who are immediately leaving campus.)

As of January 4, 2009, a 4:30 pm activity bus will also be made available for the county students.

Any county or city student who intends to ride a 4:30 pm activity bus will be required to sign-up in one of the grade level principal offices each day.

Any student attending an after-school activity/club/tutoring/library will be required to be off campus by 4:30 pm unless the club supervisor has made prior arrangements for the organization to stay later. This includes students who are waiting for parental pickup.

Only students who participate in athletics, drama, etc, that meet on a nightly basis will be allowed to ride the 6:00 pm activity buses unless prior arrangements are made by the club supervisor. Students cannot arrange to ride the 6:00 pm activity bus on their own.

CONSEQUENCES FOR STUDENTS WHO VIOLATE THE AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PROCEDURES OR WHO VIOLATE LIBRARY USE POLICIES:

First violation: Students will be given an extended detention and a two week loss of after school privileges. Parental Contact will also be made by the grade level principal.

Second Violation: Students will be given two extended detentions and will have their after school privileges pulled for 5 weeks.

Third Violation: Students will be given ISS or OSS and have their after school privileges pulled for an unspecified amount of time, which could include up to an entire semester—18 weeks
