What is the AP Program?

AP stands for Advanced Placement.  CollegeBoard currently offers 31 courses and 34 exams across 19 subject areas.  Through AP Exams, you have the opportunity to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities.

Why should I take an AP class?

  • To prepare for college
  • To stand out in the college admissions process
  • To expand your intellect

Colleges and universities want to see that you are taking the challenging classes in high school.  AP classes are the most challenging classes you can take at EHS.  We currently offer 20 different AP classes to take.

How do I sign up for it?

Talk to your guidance counselor about enrolling in an AP class (you must meet the requirements).  Be sure and speak with the AP teacher as well to understand the course workload and preparation.

When are AP Exams?

The first two weeks in May.

How much does it cost to take the test?

The fee for each exam is $86. Learn more about AP exam fees, including information about fee reductions.

If I don't get a good score on the exam, will it hurt my chances in the college admission process?

If you take an examination as a senior, colleges will not receive your grade before July - probably well after you have been admitted. If you choose to report AP grades obtained before your senior year, you will primarily be telling the colleges that you took a difficult course and that you are serious about your studies. Overall, approximately two-thirds of all AP test takers receive AP grades of at least 3. This grade is regarded as an indicator of an ability to do successful work at most colleges.
