In Missouri, persons convicted of certain felony sexual offenses or any sexual offense where the victim is a minor, are required to register with the chief law enforcement officer of the county in which the convicted offender resides (Section 589.400 of the Missouri Revised Statues).
Missouri law also requires that the chief law enforcement officer of the county make that information available to the public (Section 589.417 of the Missouri Revised Statues). The list of sexual offenders living in St. Louis County is available at the following Web address: http://www.stlouisco.com/YourGovernment/CountyDepartments/JusticeServices.
The most up-to-date list of registered sexual offenders residing in the City of St. Louis can be viewed in person from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Sex Offenders Registration Office of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, located at 1200 Clark Street in downtown St. Louis. A less current list is available for viewing on the Web at http://stlcin.missouri.org/circuitattorney/. The "Sex Offender Registry" link is listed under "Services" on the right side of the page.
The St. Louis County Police Department updates its list every week. The City of St. Louis updates the list on a daily basis. In most cases, offenders have 10 days to register or report an address change to the chief law enforcement officer of the county. The lists are accurate to the extent that the offenders comply with the notification requirements.
If parents are concerned about the location of a school bus stop in relation to the address of a registered sexual offender, they are advised to contact their school's principal.
