Children are constantly catching colds and the flu is a common problem during the winter season. Catching a cold seems like one of the inevitabilities of life. But is it?

You can be infected by the air you breathe, the food you eat, and people you live with or work with. Germs are everywhere.

Guidelines for Recess and PE outdoors

Temp. (including wind chill or heat index)
below 20 - stay inside
20-95 degrees- outside normal time
96 and above- stay inside

With the cold weather, of course children improperly clothed should not be allowed out and with the warm weather running should be limited and water/shade available.

These guidelines are not the same as MSHSAA for after-school outdoor activities, they are the recommendations of the RSD consulting physician Gerald Lowther, MD, with input from district administrators.
