The Visual Art Department at Kehrs Mill teaches a comprehensive and sequential curriculum throughout the year. Importance is placed on encouraging individual creativity and positive self-concept. Our lessons are guided by the Rockwood Fine Arts Curriculum and the Show-Me Standards.
A wide variety of concept-based lessons are taught which incorporate an exciting array of mediums. The Elements of Design: line, shape, color, texture, form, space, and value are taught through the many units. Some of these are masks, architecture, sculpture, painting, clay, printmaking and collage.
The Visual Art Program at Kehrs Mill lays a foundation for young artists to form creative and critical thinking skills, which in turn help children to be effective problem-solvers both in and outside of school.
