We at Kellison believe it is necessary that children learn to develop self-discipline in order to further their learning. An orderly environment is absolutely necessary for effective learning to take place. No student has the right to stop a teacher from teaching or other students from learning.
We believe that each student is unique and has the potential for making positive contributions to society. We therefore commit ourselves in a cooperative effort with parents, staff and students to maximize self-esteem, self-worth, self -respect and self-control. We also believe parents are part of the educational process and ask that you join us in our commitment to provide your child with a successful educational experience by discussing the importance of these expectations, reinforcements and consequences with them periodically.
All students at Kellison are expected to be considerate of themselves, other students and adults at all times. Hands, feet and objects are to be kept to themselves.

Hallway Expectations
- Enter and exit the building walking quietly
- Walk quietly in the halls
- Individual students are to have hall passes
- Respect hallway displays
Restroom Expectations
- Respect the privacy of others
- Keep the bathroom clean
- Wash hands before exiting
- Turn off water faucets
- Respect the school property
Cafeteria Expectations
- Enter and exit in a quiet and orderly manner
- Talk quietly and use proper table manners
- Leave the tables and floor clean
- Remain seated until excused
- All food will remain in the cafeteria
Playground Expectations
- Participate in appropriate activities
- Use good sportsmanship
- Follow safety rules
- Stay within assigned areas
- Line up immediately and quietly
We believe encouraging a positive attitude in children promotes personal and educational success. These successes should not go unrewarded. The following examples of possible reinforcement that may be used to recognize appropriate academic and social behaviors: stickers, notes to home, certificates, teacher's helper, call to parents, lunch with the teacher/principal, recognition form the principal, verbal praise, extra recess, treats and name announced on the intercom.
Appropriate behavior should not go unrecognized nor should inappropriate behavior be ignored when it is disruptive to the orderly climate and/or educational process. Therefore, the following consequences have been established and will be administered in a firm but fair manner:
Consequences for Inappropriate Behavior May Include:
- Warning
- Time out/isolation
- Conference between student and teacher
- Denial of various privileges
- Student contract
- Parent communication/involvement
- In-school suspension
- Principal intervention
- After school detention
- Suspension from school
Some behaviors may warrant sending the student immediately to the office. We will not tolerate fighting, disrespect towards others, obscene language or destruction of school property. Any student who is involved in fighting or aggressive behavior may receive an automatic suspension from school lasting anywhere from 3 to 180 days.
We are certain that you share our concern for the social, emotional, attitudinal and academic well being of our students and ask that you discuss with your children the importance of and the need for good behavior and a good attitude while at school.
Transportation
The bus provides a valuable service to most of our school population. Riding the bus is a privilege, which requires responsibility on the part of each student. Please discuss the responsibility with your child to avoid an accident or disciplinary action. Please refer to the Policies, Procedures, and Consequences Pertaining to Elementary School Students booklet for specific rules and consequences.
