BOOK FAIR – Volunteers are responsible for setting up the fair, selling books, collecting money, placing orders for merchandise sold and reporting sales to Scholastic Books. The event will take place in October and again in March during parent teacher conferences. 10 to 20% of the sales from this event are profit to the PSO.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION – You can help by simply saving those Box Tops coupons! Committee members will sort and bundle Box Tops to be submitted to General Mills a couple times each school year. Throughout the school year volunteers organize any special collections and incentive prizes. 100% of the proceeds go to fund our PSO service events.
BUZZ BOOK – Committee members plan, organize and put together the information obtained from parent forms to create the school directory. Other responsibilities include printing and distributing the directory. The Buzz Book is provided as a service to our families and is not intended as a fundraiser.
CLASSROOM VOLUNTEER (School) - classroom volunteers work one-on-one with a student or in small groups who may need help in academic subjects. They may spend their time reading to children and working on special projects. This type of volunteer opportunity provides students the chance to reinforce the learning and skills they need to achieve. Takes place at school.
CLASSROOM VOLUNTEER (Home/Other) - volunteers work closely with classroom teachers and staff, assisting in various projects. They may perform a variety of school duties such as going on field trips, doing projects at home, etc.
CLUB H.O.P.E. – CALLING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS! Is your child crazy about animals? This character education club was created for him / her! Club HOPE (Helping Our Pets and the Environment) is for grades 1-3, meets once a month after school, and focuses on topics such as animal safety, respect for animals, and being a responsible pet owner. Meetings include speakers, games, crafts and activities. Volunteers are needed to help decide on dates and plan monthly meetings!
CUDDLE COVERS – This is an exciting new service program for Fenton area students! Students create handmade quilts for new mothers at SSM St. Clare Health Center. Elementary students are invited to participate in this after school club where they will learn the details about how to make small quilts while creating them along the way. After the quilt pattern is laid out, middle and high school students will sew and prepare them for delivery. Volunteers are needed to help with pre-cutting fabric, backing and batting. Once the students design the quilts, help may also be needed on piecing and sewing (on an as-needed basis only).
D.A.R.E. GRADUATION – This committee organizes the 5th grade students’ graduation ceremony from the Drug Awareness Resistance Education program. The ceremony involves a speaker, presentation of awards, refreshments and T-shirts to all graduates. While 5th grade parents organize the event, non-5th grade parents are needed to staff the event. This event is offered as a service to our 5th graders.
DONUTS WITH DAD – This committee organizes the event by preparing flyers to go home, taking reservations, buying the donuts and refreshments. They also will coordinate the volunteers needed the day of the event. This event is provided as a service to our families and is not intended to be a fundraiser.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS – Organizes the sale and distribution of Entertainment Books, which are loaded with hundreds of coupons from local area businesses. Committee members may decide on incentives and prizes for those students who sell the most books. Volunteers are needed to help collect money and orders in each grade level. 40% of the sales are profit to the PSO from this fundraiser. This committee starts during the summer.
FIFTH GRADE ACTIVITIES – In collaboration with teachers and administration, this team determines and coordinates activities for the fifth grade during May to celebrate their elementary years at Kellison. Activities are spread out over the month of May and have included special lunches and a picnic. These activities are provided by PSO as a service to our 5th graders.
FIFTH GRADE DINNER – Volunteers organize a special evening in May for 5th-grade students and their parents, including a catered dinner and a trip down memory lane. Highlights include the distribution of the memory book and showing the 5th-grade video. The committee is responsible for selecting a caterer, decorations, and setup, clean up and ticket sales. While 5th grade parents organize the event, non-5th grade parents are needed to staff the event. This event is offered as a service to our 5th graders.
FIFTH GRADE DVD – The fifth grade DVD is a collection of photos and videos taken throughout the students’ school years at Kellison, and is normally set to music. The committee may either put the video together themselves or contract a professional to do so. Copies of the video are sold. This is offered as a service to our 5th graders.
FIFTH GRADE MEMORY BOOK – The 5th-grade memory book is a collection of personal information provided by and about the students and teachers and allows for signing of autographs. The book is a gift from the PSO. This committee is responsible for collecting the data, assembling the book, and making and distributing copies to each student. This is offered as a service to our 5th graders.
FIRE PREVENTION DAY – Volunteers will assist the administration with various duties during this October event such as setup or getting students to and from class, etc.
HEARING / VISION SCREENING – This screening is scheduled for November. You would be assisting the school nurse with administering the vision screenings or helping to get the children through the lines and organized.
KINDERGARTEN GRANDPARENT’S/SPECIAL FRIEND DAY & GRADUATION – This committee works with our kindergarten teachers to plan activities and provide refreshments for visiting grandparents (or “special friends”) of kindergarten students and also coordinate the refreshments for the kindergarten graduation. Activities usually include a song recital or short skit and a craft. Grandparents love this event! This event is provided as a service to our kindergarten students. Although the event is held for kindergarten students, non-kindergarten parents are needed to help check in grandparents on the day of the event.
MISC. VOLUNTEERS – This committee was established to allow parents greater flexibility with time and commitment in volunteering for PSO activities. At times, volunteers are needed for special programs, last-minute administrative help, etc. A list of names will be kept and you will be contacted when these situations arise.
MOVIE NIGHT – Volunteers will poll students in order to determine a family-appropriate movie. This committee also distributes flyers, sets up the equipment, and serves refreshments to Kellison families. This event is held on a Friday night and is provided as a service to our community. It is not intended to be a fundraising activity.
MUFFINS WITH MOM – This committee organizes the event by preparing flyers to go home, taking reservations, buying the muffins and refreshments. They also will coordinate the volunteers needed the day of the event. This event is provided as a service to our families and is not intended to be a fundraiser.
ORIGINAL WORKS – You will be assisting the art teacher with a fundraiser to benefit the art program. You will help take orders and collect money. You will also help distribute the items purchased when they arrive. This fundraiser benefits the art program directly and the PSO does not profit from this program.
PARENT BUDDY PROGRAM – This committee works closely with the PSO Co-Presidents to ensure that new families are provided with necessary information upon entering Kellison. The volunteers act as a “resource” to help these new families feel comfortable and welcome. In this way, new families are “buddied” with veteran families.
PE FAMILY FUN NIGHT – This is a family event held in the evening. The committee is responsible for purchasing and serving refreshments, decorating, organizing the event and volunteers to staff the event. Activities may include stations such as kickball, basketball or rock climbing. This night is provided as a service to our community and is not intended as a fundraising activity.
PHOTOCOPIERS – Volunteers are needed to copy papers and do laminating for teachers on a daily basis. Shifts are available in the mornings and afternoons and parents usually work one shift a week.
PICTURE DAY - Volunteers are needed to assist students on picture day with hair combing, shirt straightening, etc! You will also help get the students to and from class when it is their turn to have their picture taken.
PLANT SALES – Volunteers take orders for plants, usually in time for Mother’s Day, and organize the pick-up of plants in Kellison’s parking lot. The PSO utilizes money raised during this sale to fund many budget items including technology, teacher requests, etc.
REFRESHMENTS – This committee chooses, purchases, and or solicits refreshments for all Kellison musicals and organizes volunteers to serve them at these evening events. Refreshments are provided as a service to our students and their families.
ROLLER SKATING EVENT - This event is held Saturday, November 5. This event is new this year. We’ve rented the Rollercade for Kellison families to enjoy an afternoon of rollerskating. Volunteers are needed to create a registration form and check-in families the day of the event.
SCHOOL PICNIC – This event is a fundraiser for our school. This committee plans and organizes the annual school picnic in May. The picnic may include a game booths, inflatables, rides, face painting, and food. Wristbands and/or tickets are sold in advance for the purchase of games, rides and inflatables. Many committee members plan this event by preparing flyers, booking the rides and inflatables plus getting prizes and food. The PSO utilizes money raised during this event to fund many budget items including technology, teacher requests, etc.
SCIENCE CLUB – This club is for students in grades 3-5 who “dig science”! Students will learn all about how to “dust” for fingerprints, experience lasers and how they really work among other experiences that will “WOW” you! We’ll get you ready for the District Science Olympics too!
SPORTSWEAR - Begins meeting in the summer to design and select Kellison sportswear items to be sold to the students, their families, and staff. Orders need to be taken throughout the year, placed and delivered to the classrooms for students. 10 to 20% of the sales are profit to the PSO.
STAFF APPRECIATION – This committee is responsible for organizing the activities to show our appreciation for Kellison staff members. This committee organizes dinner during parent / teacher conferences (fall and spring). The committee also assists with planning gifts and acknowledgement ideas during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
SWEETHEART DANCE – This event is held in February. Daughters and their dads or favorite male guardian (uncle, brother, etc.) will spend a special night together. Committee members will prepare informational flyers to go home and take reservations on a first-come first-served basis. Members will also be on hand during the event for check-in purposes. This event is provided as a service to our families and is not intended to be a fundraiser.
THURSDAY FOLDER MOMS / DADS - Volunteers are needed to copy and assemble packets of information to go home in the Tiger folders on Friday of each week. This committee meets on Thursday mornings. Volunteers may only work once a month if they are willing to do it on a rotating basis with other volunteers.
TOGETHER WE’RE BETTER (TWB) - Offers gift cards to local grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and more. Kellison earns a % of all sales that are used to help provide services. TWB scripts are on sale every Friday morning in the lobby, at special school events or by special order. Volunteers are needed to help sell gift cards 1-2 times per month on Friday mornings or at other special events as assigned.
TRIVIA NIGHT – This adult-only event will be held Saturday, October 22nd. It is our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year. Come out and have a great evening filled with fun and excitement. Committee members coordinate the event by choosing the location, planning the event, and gathering donations for items up for the silent action. The PSO utilizes money raised during this event to fund many budget items including technology, teacher requests, etc.
VETERAN’S DAY ASSEMBLY - Our school will honor our family and friends who have served our country in any capacity. Many ideas and plans will come together as this committee meets to share ideas for this year's celebration. Please join us in our planning.
YEARBOOK – This committee is responsible for producing the school’s annual yearbook. Volunteers are needed to take pictures, work with students on page layout, collect money, and distribute books. The yearbook is provided as a service to our students and is not a fundraising opportunity. |
