Class News

Wow, the year is rolling right on by.  It won’t be long before we are all taking much needed vacations and sharing time with family and friends in the beautiful summer air.

Prom will be held on, May 5, at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand & Suites Hotel.  It is a wonderful opportunity to see our students adorned in their finest attire.  The traditional Prom celebration provides a memorable evening for all.  I’d like to say “thank you” to all those who put in a great deal of time and effort, helping in preparation of making this year’s prom a success.  From parents and chaperones to administrators and staff, many have helped make this event such a great success.  Especially, I’d like to recognize the tireless efforts of Todd Decker  and Mary Miller .  Without these folks, it just wouldn’t happen.

Summer School registration is in full swing and registration packets are still available in the guidance office.  Check with your counselor to see if participating in summer school will help you with your academic success.

See you at school,

ACT Information
On April 24th, LHS will be hosting an ACT exam for all Juniors.  We will have a special class schedule on this date and other grade levels will hold various activities throughout the day.

Here are some guidelines and info you will find helpful regarding this date and the ACT exam:

  • Students will bring home a sample ACT booklet, have them practice in advance using this booklet. This booklet will be given to students when they complete their demographic information form in their LA class between  April 1 – 10.
  • Bring a few sharpened #2 pencils.  No mechanical pencils are allowed.
  • Students should bring the appropriate calculator needed for the test. A listing of these  will be provided to them with the practice booklet.
  • Students may bring snacks in a lunch bag to be placed in front of the room. They can step out during their break and eat the snack. Students will not be allowed to keep snacks with them at their desk.
  • Students should be at school by 8:00 and find their assigned classroom to be checked in. Bring a driver’s license, school ID or appropriate ID with a picture to the test.
From The Principal's Desk

The LHS Academic Pep Assembly was held on 3/13 and was a tremendous success.  If you’ve never seen this event, I recommend you try to make next year’s show.  You will be amazed at the talent and success of our students at LHS.

I’m finding it amazing to be so quickly approaching the end of the school year.  It seems like just yesterday we were at the first home football game. Spring break is but a memory.  ACT and MAP testing are quickly upon us and it won’t be long before final exams are here as well.  Wow it’s gone by fast!

Prom is our next big event and I encourage all our students and families to take

advantage of this great, traditional celebration.  This year’s prom will be held at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand & Suites Hotel on the evening of May 5th.  I’d like to say “thank you” to all those who have put in a great deal of time and effort, helping make this year’s prom a success.  Especially, I’d like to recognize the efforts of Todd Decker who has done an excellent job this year as Junior Class Sponsor.  Also, I can’t forget the tireless dedication of Mary Miller. Without these folks, it just wouldn’t happen.

Please join me on Monday April 9th for an informational parent “coffee”.  This will be held in room 137 beginning at 6:00PM.  Topics will include:  Grading practices, Prom, ACT exams and more.  Please mark your calendar to attend.

See you at school!

From the Principal's Desk

March is always the time we begin looking anxiously toward spring, yet many are still hoping for one last “Snow Day”, that half day was just not enough! Which ever your mindset, enjoy the new season and all it offers. Spring Break is just a few short weeks away!

In addition to Spring, we have completed planning this years Rockwood Summer Academy offerings. Summer classes will be held at Lafayette, with a much reduced course selection this year based on budgetary constraints.  Be sure and get your registration in early.  Forms are available through the Rockwood webpage or in counseling offices. Please take time to review the course offerings and secure your place early. Completed forms will be accepted in the counseling office beginning on March 5.

Another Taste of West County has come and gone.  Even following the last minute anxieties, it was still a great event. If you didn’t get enough to eat, you missed out. A special Thank You to all who helped with Taste of West County, all your efforts in support of the junior class are greatly appreciated.

Mr.LHS was once again a great night filled with the men of LHS in boxers. It doesn’t get any better than that.  Congratulations to Max Thoman, Mr. Image, who was selected as the 2012 Mr. LHS.

That’s it for now. See you at school!
