May Newsletter

As the final days of high school wind down for your child, please monitor their attendance closely.  Several of our seniors are at or near the limit on allowable absences for one or more classes.  In addition, end-of-the-year information will be given to your child when they begin checking out in mid-May.  On a more positive note, congratulations to each of the school record 99 Bright Flight Scholars in the class of 2012, who scored a 30 or higher on the ACT.  All of these seniors and information regarding many other award recipients can be found on the on-line version of the Senior Awards Night Booklet.

Graduation tickets.  Graduation tickets will be distributed at the conclusion of the mandatory graduation practice on Friday, May 18 at 8:30 a.m.  The practice will be held in the back gym at Lafayette HS.  Each graduating senior will receive 10 tickets for the ceremony after the rehearsal if all fines/fees/discipline obligations have been satisfied.  Students not in attendance at the mandatory practice will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.  Seniors will receive their graduation caps and gowns at the conclusion of the mandatory graduation practice.  In addition, all seniors must follow the established checkout procedure before the cap and gown is issued.  All examinations must be completed, fines/fees paid, and discipline served prior to student checkout.  Graduation DVD’s will be available for purchase this year through Copy Cat Video in both VHS and DVD format.  Order forms will be included in the end-of-the-year information given to seniors during the checkout process.  The members and sponsors of the Lafayette FCA chapter invite all seniors to participate in the 9th annual Baccalaureate on Sunday evening, May 20, at 7 p.m.  This event is a voluntary community blessing held at Windsor Crossing Community Church.  Participants wear their caps and gowns and can bring as many family members to this event as they would like.   Please indicate on the mailed invitations the total number of family /friends attending so that appropriate arrangements can be made by the individuals planning this event.   Congratulations to Kelsey Clayman and Max Thoman who were recognized as two of the Missouri 100 Scholars and honored at a ceremony last month in Columbia, MO.  And another congratulations to Kelsey Clayman for being selected as the Lafayette High School Post Dispatch Scholar Athlete of the Year. Finally, we offer congratulations to Jean Luc Panchot for being selected by the faculty and staff as the winner of Lancer Award for the Class of 2012.

Revised Graduation information letter to parents

May 8, 2012

Dear Senior Parent/Guardian:

Graduation will be held at the Chaifetz Arena on the campus of St. Louis University on Thursday, May 24.  The ceremony will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at approximately 9:00 p.m. Additional information regarding the ceremony and other graduation related events is posted on this website and can be found by clinking on the link to the left, Graduation Information 2012.

Following their last final examination, seniors will complete the check-out process.  All seniors must have paid off all fines/fees, served all disciplinary obligations, and taken care of any outstanding absence before receiving administrative approval to complete the check-out process.    All medical or legal verification for absences above those allowed by Rockwood District policy must also be received in the senior office prior to check out.  Seniors should check with the Senior

Office prior to their last day of attendance to ensure that they have satisfied these obligations.

There will be mandatory graduation rehearsal for all seniors on May 18, at 8:30 a.m. in the back gym of Lafayette High School.  Seniors not attending the rehearsal will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.  At the conclusion of the rehearsal, seniors will be issued 10 tickets to the ceremony and will receive their cap and gown.  Students in need of additional tickets to the ceremony will have the opportunity to request them from designated individuals following the rehearsal.  Available tickets will be distributed at that time.  Guests of all ages must present a ticket at the front door for admittance to the Chaifetz Arena.  Seniors will need to arrive at the designated “graduates only” entrance to the Chaifetz Arena by 5:30 p.m.  Doors will open for guests with tickets at 6:00 p.m.

Also enclosed with this letter is an invitation for seniors and their parents/guests to attend Lafayette’s annual Baccalaureate service to be held on Sunday, May 20, at Windsor Crossing Community Church.  This voluntary event, hosted by Lafayette’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle, will begin at 7 p.m. and will last approximately one hour.

After reviewing the enclosed information, please feel free to contact the senior office at 636-733-4112 if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Timothy P. Jones

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The National Merit Scholarship Program was created to identify and recognize exceptional students in the United States.  Created in 1955, it is one of the most competitive programs in our nation.  Our recipients began the process in their junior year when they participated in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test given to students nationwide.

Based upon exceptional performance on this test, one half of the top 1 percent of the approximate one million students who completed the exam were designated as National Merit Finalists.  Lafayette High School is proud to have 19 students who have been recognized this year as either Commended or Finalists students.
