Open Parking - April 1, 2015

On April 1st, we will have an awards ceremony occurring in the morning before school starts.  Because of the timing of the ceremony and the number of parents attending, we will have open parking.  Students will be able to park in any spot in the parking lot, as long as their parking hang tag is showing.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact the sophomore office.

Mental Illness Speaker Series

We all know someone affected by mental illness.

Did you know that 28.5% of students nationwide reported feeling so sad or hopeless almost every day for two or more weeks in a row that they stopped doing some of their usual activities?

Did you know that half of all lifelong mental illnesses begin before age 14?

Learning the signs of mental illness & depression is the first step in getting help.  In 2014, CHADS Coalition for Mental Health's school outreach specialists presented to 19,334 students in St. Louis and the surrounding area. Of those students, 2,079 expressed they would like to talk to a counselor about a concern they have for themselves or a friend.

Please join us Monday, March 9th, 7:00 p.m. in the Lafayette Theater to learn more.

CHADS Coalition (an organization that saves young lives by advancing the awareness & prevention of depression) and Dr. Sharon Sevier (Lafayette counselor) will host a discussion that addresses the questions:

  • Are you able to recognize the signs of depression and warning signs of suicide?
  • If you see those signs, do you know what steps to take?
  • Do your children know how to recognize depression in themselves or their friends, and do they know how to get help?

We hope you can join our discussion on March 9th.  What you learn just may save a life.

Parent/Teacher Conferences...Don't Forget!!

Parent / Teacher conferences at Lafayette are scheduled for Thursday, February 5th, and Wednesday, February 11th, from 4:30-8:00pm.  Parents are encouraged to conference with their children’s teachers, and collaboratively discuss the current academic standing in their respective classes.  Conferences are each 10 minutes in length.

This year, LHS secretarial staff members will be seated at an information table in the Commons next to the elevator to answer any questions and provide necessary information for the evening.  LHS will not be handing out individual student schedules for parents to follow.  Parents are encouraged to download that information ahead of time either from Infinite Campus or their children.  If student schedules are needed, please indicate that at the information table.

We look forward to seeing parents on the 5th and 11th.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s grade level office for assistance.
