Curriculum Night Thank You
Thanks to all of the parents and students who attended Curriculum Night last night.  I hope that you found the evening informative, and it helps students in the registration process.  If you have any questions, please contact the freshman office.
Carnival Update
Parents...

Just wanted to give you an update on our progress with Carnival.  We currently have about 40 students volunteering for set-up on Friday night and approximately 60 signed up for volunteering on Saturday.  We will still be signing students up for the next couple of weeks.

Our advisory students have been meeting once a week to help organize for the day.  They have been busy stuffing eggs, creating new signs, and updating yard signs.  They will be meeting the next two weeks to continue their work.

What you can do!

  • We still need parent volunteers for the actual day.  If you are interested in volunteering your time to help the class raise money, we would really appreciate it.  Let me know if you are interested.
  • Donations - We are still in need of the donations as listed in the previous post.  If you are able to donate any item below, please bring it to the freshman office ASAP.
  • Sponsorships - If you are interested in sponsoring a booth or donating money, you will be eligible for a tax deduction.  You can bring your sponsorship funds to the freshman office, and we will give you a letter in return.  We have two different levels for sponsorship - Gold and Silver.  Gold is a donation of $200 and Silver is a donation of $100.  If you would like to donate a smaller amount, we could definitely use that money towards purchasing supplies to get carnival up and running.

Remember that the profit from Carnival is for YOUR students.  The money will be used for their Senior Celebration after graduation.  Thanks for all you do!

Coffee Thank You!!
I wanted to thank all of our parents that attended the Freshman Coffee last night at LHS.  We had between 50-60 parents that joined us for information and discussion.

The following information is what was discussed last night at the meeting.  I have added some additional information and dates.  Those of you that were able to join us last night can glance through for that information to hopefully answer some questions and close some gaps.

Preparing for Finals

Study guides for finals are the main study tool that students need when studying for their finals.  Many students will find that the test questions come from information listed on the study guides.  Teachers will allow the students time to work on their study guides in class and will go over questions with them.

December 19th - Full day of classes.  5th hour final will be from 8:16-10:16 with an abbreviated day of classes to follow.

December 20th - Half day.  1st hour final 8:16-10:16, 2nd hour final 10:26-12:26

December 21st - Half day.  3rd hour final 8:16-10:16, 4th hour final 10:26-12:26

December 22nd - Half day.  6th hour final 8:16-10:16, 7th hour final 10:26-12:26

Sophomore Registration

Counselors will begin going to Freshmen Language Arts classes in January to speak with students about scheduling for next year.  They will discuss classes that are required for graduation and will teach students how to register through Infinite Campus.  Counselors will then pull students in for one-on-one discussions beginning January 20th.  The portal for registration opens on January 20th and closes on January 31st.  Remember that the it does not matter how quickly a student gets registered.  Once all students are registered, we will then place teachers based on class need and demand.

Leadership Opportunities

We will have a few events coming up second semester that will be part of the Freshman Leadership Series.

January - Freshman Leadership with OSEP
February - Overnight retreat with myself and other LHS adults
April - Middle school visits

For those that asked where information could be found regarding clubs and sports, you can look through the LHS website or look through the student handbook that your student received at registration.  That book has a blurb about each student organization.

Renaissance qualification

Freshmen will qualify for Renaissance once grades are posted for the first semester.  We will be notifying students of their level in late January or early February.  We will also be honoring our students at the Academic Pep Assembly in March.

I hope this answers some questions.  If you have any others, please feel free to contact me.  Thanks again for your attendance!!

Finals are approaching...
Finals begin on December 19th.  In order to help your students prepare, we will be offering a help session with Freshman Mentors after school on December 6th from 3:15-4:00 pm in the commons.  Upperclassmen will be available to help the students study and to give them tips on how to prepare.  Remember that finals count as 20% of the student's grade.
Coffee with the Freshman Principal
Please join me for the 1st "Coffee with the Freshman Principal" of the year.  We will be discussing topics related to your students - finals and how to prepare, attendance, involvement, registration for the sophomore year, and general concerns.

The coffee will be on December 6th from 6:00-7:00 pm in room 180.  I hope to see you there!
Carnival Progress
The Carnival committee met for the second time on November 1st to discuss planning for the freshman class fundraiser.  All of the committee chairs are working diligently and presenting new ideas to help make this year's carnival a huge success.

The committee will meet again on December 6th beginning at 7:00.  Just a reminder that any parent that wishes to attend the meeting for more information is invited.  You do not have to chair a committee to volunteer for the event.  We would love to see you there!
