The Rockwood School Board voted 7-0 to hire Dr. Bruce Borchers as superintendent of the school district beginning July 1, 2010. Dr. Borchers was approved as the new Rockwood Superintendent with a three-year contract for $230,000 per year.
Since 2008, Dr. Borchers has served as associate superintendent for secondary schools for the 40,500-student Anoka-Hennepin School District in Coon Rapids, MN. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, master’s degrees from Wayne State College and the University of South Dakota, and a bachelor’s degree from Morningside College.
Prior to Anoka-Hennepin, Dr. Borchers was a principal and assistant principal at Mankato West High School (Mankato, MN); an interim assistant principal and guidance counselor at South East Jr. High (Iowa City, IA); and an elementary physical education teacher for the Sioux City Community Schools (Sioux City, IA).
“I want to serve as an educational leader for this dynamic school district because I share the district’s commitment to academic excellence, accountability and increased student achievement for all students,” says Borchers. “My passion is continuous improvement for myself, students and staff members.”
Borchers notes he will focus on collaboration. “In the end, student learning depends first, last and always on the quality of teachers, administrators, and support staff in our schools.”
Dr. Craig Larson, current Rockwood superintendent, announced his upcoming retirement last year. Rockwood is St. Louis County's largest school district with an enrollment of 22,314 students in an area covering more than 150 square miles in twelve distinct communities, including Ballwin, Chesterfield, Ellisville, Eureka, Fenton and Wildwood.
