Students Receive State Citizenship Award

Two Rockwood students are among 15 students in the state to receive the 2012 Outstanding Achievement in Citizenship Award.  The students are:

Ravali Gummi, Marquette High School
Connor Tinen, Eureka High School

“We are excited for these students to receive statewide recognition for their exemplary citizenship,” said Dr. Jim Wipke, executive director of secondary education.  “To have two students selected for this award is a reflection of the students’ hard work and the academic and extracurricular opportunities available to Rockwood students.”

Since 1990, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has conducted the citizenship program with assistance and financial support from the Missouri Bar Association.  Every public high school in Missouri is eligible to nominate one senior for the citizenship award.  Students are selected on the basis of their academic achievement in civics and government courses, performance in civics and government-related extracurricular activities and exemplary community service.  Students also must submit an essay about the importance of citizenship, which is scored by members of the Advisory Committee on Citizenship Education.
