More than 40 families new to Rockwood were welcomed to the district by the Department of Educational Equity and Diversity during an event on July 26. In addition to meeting new friends, elementary school students learned about bus danger zones and ways to stay safe when riding the school bus. Students also had the opportunity to play games while parents gained tips on ways to prepare their children for success in school.
Terry Harris, department of educational equity and diversity coordinator, said the event was a great way to kick off the school year. “We want students to be excited about starting school in Rockwood,” said Harris. “The event allowed us to establish positive relationships with students and families, as well as share what they can expect when school starts.”
