Counselor Elected President of American School Counselor Association
 
Lafayette High School counselor Sharon Sevier, Ph.D., has been elected National President of the American School Counselor Association, ASCA.  Dr. Sevier has served the school counseling profession for 27 years, ten in the Rockwood School District.  Dr. Sevier will take office as president-elect in October 2012. 

“School counselors, and the critical role they play in the lives of today’s students, have been my passion for the bulk of my career,” said Dr. Sevier.  “To have the opportunity to represent these committed and devoted professionals across the nation and world is a privilege.  I am grateful to my colleagues for their support of and enthusiasm for my presidency.”

Dr. Sevier is also an active member of several professional organizations including the:  St. Louis Suburban School Counselor Association, Missouri School Counselor Association, American School Counselor Association, Missouri Association of Career and Technical Education and National Association of College Admissions Counselors.  In addition, she is a licensed professional counselor for the State of Missouri and has a private practice with Clarkson Counseling, PC. 

“To be chosen by your peers to lead this professional organization is a wonderful accomplishment," said Jane Brown, director of differentiated services.  "Rockwood has an outstanding school counseling department and we are confident Dr. Sevier’s experiences will benefit this organization and the work it does for children.”

ASCA is a worldwide nonprofit organization that supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, personal/social and career development.  The association provides professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy to more than 24,000 professional school counselors around the globe.

Shari, What an honor to you and Rockwood School District! Your involvement in the national arena brings expertise to those you work with throughout the district. ASCA certainly recognizes your dedication and commitment to students as well as the impact you have had on guidance counselors K-12. Congratulations!
