THE REVIEWS ARE IN! HERE IS WHAT 5th GRADERS HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE 4th GRADE MUSICAL PROGRAM - 'POND ROUTE 66'

Brin Bodker wrote…I give the 4th grade show this year, 5 stars out of 5 because the students were well prepared and well focused on there part in the show. The backrounds, I give them a 4 out of 5 stars because, They were the same as last year, but they didn't have the mini clip from Cars toons. I thought the mini clip added some "Pizazz:)" The sound quality, I give it 5 out of 5 stars because I could hear EVERYTHING clearly! The lighting, I give 3 out of 5 stars because they didn't have the lights turn on and off in between each song and/or performance. Overall, I give the show 5 out of 5 stars because it was FANTASTIC! I would like to give a shoutout to Archer Lamb, because he did great on his speaking role and he got into every song, like it was his own:)

Grace Annunziata & Peyton Burke wrote…We Thought that the 4th grade show was awesome!!!! We loved all the songs Route 66, Real gone, Life is a highway, Shaboom, and Route 66 again. Our favorite song was Life is a highway. We also LOVED Barry Tone and the 4 quarter notes singing Shaboom. We were singing along with the awesome 4th graders AMAZING musical production. LOVED IT!

Natalie Gentry wrote…I loved the song get your kicks on route 66 it was the best and i would give them 5 STARS way to go 4th graders

Lauren knoll Laura Held Brooke Gentry wrote… They where all on track, rembered the words, you could hear them great. The speakers where good and all the speacil parts! :)

Nisha and Evan wrote… Our favorite song was Shaboom, the third one with Barry Tone and the four quarter notes. We also really liked how the sound quality was, with the new sound system. (Thanks PTO for the amazing sound system). We loved the selection of special parts and were in the songs that they took place. The fourth graders did a great job with volume even though they only have three classes. The only thing missing was the Burma-shave video and the Cars videos, but they did do a great job with the tid-bits of information that the kids read in between songs. Overall we give the proformance on a scale from 1-10 a 8.5. Great job 4th Graders!

Matty Murawski wrote…I thought that the show was awesome! I loved that some kids came up and gave a speech in front of everyone. They were all amazing! I thought that Anna's solo was amazing! The drumers did a very good job  staying on beat! The kids that came up and sang "Our Town" did such a good job too!The whole 4th grade did  such a good job singing together!I would give theh whole show 5 stars!!

Olivia wrote… Hey its Olivia and ill tell you what I thought of the play I thought it was splendid and I loved all of the kids there. Also I thought it was great and they did better than us, hands down. I loved how they were loud enough so we all could hear it and that they were patience when they had to be. I wish I was a  2nd and 3rd grader so I could do it over again. It was the best play EVER!!!

Dev Nayak,  Athan H and Isaac Aston wrote… The fourth grade show was great! Their voices came all the way to the back so we could hear. Their singing was amazing! The chorus and all the special parts were fun to watch! I especially like the Shaboom part.

AND THE WINNER IS...
Dear Fifth Grade Students,
We read lots of great reviews of the fourth grade musical performance.  We actually have a tie!  Submissions from Brin Bodker and the team of Grace Annunziata & Peyton Burke will have lunch with the principal.  We enjoyed reading all of the reviews and appreciate everyone's participation.

Stay tuned for the next challenge and a chance to eat lunch with the principal and two friends.

Sincerely,
Mr. Diaz-Granados
Q & A FOR PROP S...

Dear Parents,

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 2. It’s Election Day and voters will be considering Prop S, a no-tax rate increase bond issue on the ballot. Below are some answers to voting information.

When are polls open on April 2?

Polls will be open at 6:00 AM and will close at 7:00 PM.

Who may vote?

Any Rockwood resident who is a registered voter may vote in this election. Anyone needing to register to vote or needed to update his or her voter registration information may do so at any Rockwood school, or any St. Louis County library or City Hall. The deadline for processing registrations, reinstatements and transfers is March 6 to be eligible to vote in the April 2 election.

Where may I vote?

Just prior to the election date, each registered voter will receive a postcard from the election office designated the polling place for the election.

I’m out of town on April 2. May I vote by absentee ballot?

Yes. St. Louis County registered voters wishing to cast an absentee ballot should call 314.615.1800. In Jefferson County, call 636.797.5486. St. Louis County residents may download the absentee ballot application online.

March 27 is the last day absentee ballot requests are accepted by mail at the election office. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Election Office by April 1.

April 1 is the last day to cast an absentee ballot in person at the Election Office. The office is located at 12 Sunnen Drive in Maplewood for St. Louis County residents and 729 Maple Street in Hillsboro for Jefferson County residents.

How many “Yes” votes are required for the bond issue to pass?

The Constitution of the State of Missouri requires a four-sevenths (57.14 percent) majority for passage of the bond issue.

How will Proposition S appear on the ballot?

The ballot language for Proposition S is as follows:

Shall the Rockwood R-6 School District, St. Louis County, Missouri, issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $38.4 Million Dollars ($38,400,000) for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, renovating, repairing, improving, furnishing and equipping school sites, buildings and related facilities in the District, including but not limited to (1) safety and health measures, (2) technology infrastructure and classroom technology and (3) maintenance of current facilities by continuing to fund major capital repairs and improvements, resulting in no estimated increase in the debt service property tax levy? If this proposition is approved, the adjusted debt service levy of the District is estimated to remain unchanged at sixty-eight cents ($0.68) per one hundred dollars assessed valuation of real and personal property.

ATTENTION FIFTH GRADE ROCK STARS
Once again it is time to offer up LUNCH WITH THE PRINCIPAL to the fifth grade student who comes out on top of this month's challenge.  If you are interested, read on...

Your class will be invited to a matinee performance of POND ROUTE 66, the fourth grade musical performance on Thursday, March 7.  Blog me a review of the performance for your chance to have lunch with the principal.

When writing your review, please be descriptive, polite and positive.  You can mention your favorite songs in the performance and/or highlight the performance of a particular fourth grader.  You can also mention the technical aspects of the performance (sound quality, lighting, backdrop).

Fourth grade teachers will read all of the reviews submitted on or before March 11 in order to determine the winning review.  The lucky winner will be announced via blog on March 14.  The winner may select two buddies to join him/her for lunch witht he principal!  Good luck!!!!
Mrs. Taylor's Third Grade Rock Stars...
Mrs. Taylor's class is practicing their rights and responsibilities as citizens by writing to me about problems they see in the Pond School Community.  Here are some of thier concerns...

Skye Madlinger wrote that the bus is too loud.  She suggested that there be days that talking is not allowed on the bus so that students can enjoy some peace and quiet.  Skye suggested that I should talk to any students who are not following the rules by getting too noisy on the bus.  I think I will be paying a visit to bus #45 today.  Thank you for sharing your concern, Skye!  Help is on the way!

Madison Burgard wrote about bullying.  To fix the problem with bullies, Madison suggests that we "place a box of sheets of paper outside the office, so students can fill in what prolems they are seeing. Then, Mr. Diaz-Granados can check the box every day".  Great idea, Madison!  If you could decorate a box, I will place it in the main office for students to submit any concerns that they have.  I can check the box every day and follow up on any submissions.

Jack McKee is concerened about the way in which teams are picked for basketball during recess.  He wrote "I am always on the team with only two people on it".  Jack suggested that the problem can be fixed by having the recess teachers make the teams.  I think that would be a great idea!  Another idea would be to start by picking two captains and letting them take turns picking players.  This way, the teams are evenly yoked.  If there is an extra person, they can sub in and out or try to find another player to balance things out.  By the way, I have mad skills on the court.  I would love to hoop it up with y'all sometime.

Isabella Grander and I seem to have the exact same concern - sometimes, people litter on the playground.  It makes me so very sad when I see debris outside.  During our next PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) meeting, I am going to make sure that we include lessons about keeping the playgound clean.  I think this is worth a try, Isabella...what do you think?  Our awesome lead custodian, Mr. Robert, is also going to check the playground for debris on a regular basis in order to help make sure that items that blow onto school property are properly discarded in a timely manner.
WHO WILL BE EATING LUNCH WITH THE PRINCIPAL THIS MONTH?
Many thanks to all of the awesome fifth graders who participated in my most recent challenge!  I have done the math to figure out who submitted the most accurate quarter by quarter scores.

Congratulations DEVEN BYNUM! Devin came within 31 combined points of the actual quarter by quarter scores.

Deven - let me know via blog who you will be inviting to lunch with the principal this month.  Mrs. Dietrich will give your parents a call to schedule a day.

Special shout outs to Brin Bodker and Natalie Karlson (34 point differential), Brooky Gentry (38 point differential),  Lauren Knoll (39 point differential), Dylan Corchran (42 point differential), and Maddie Murawski (51 point differential).

STAY TUNED FOR MY NEXT EXCITING CHALLENGE!!!!!!
