Copyright Definition:
A property right in an original work of authorship (such as literary, musical, artistic, photographic, or film work) fixed in any tangible medium of expression, giving the holder the exclusive right to reproduce, adapt, distribute, perform, and display the work
Copyright in the Education Context:
Schools frequently violate copyright laws:
- By showing copyrighted films without obtaining proper licenses
- By performing copyrighted plays without obtaining proper licenses
- When students copy verbatim text of copyrighted material from the Internet
