Curriculum
Budding scientists are exposed to a variety of topics throughout the year. We offer something for everyone. Biologists delight in the investigation of living things and their habitats. Astronomers really shine when it comes to reporting on the solar system and celestial bodies. Students will have the opportunity to study the generation of sound and create/construct their own instruments. Also, we learn about the relationship between the strength of a force and the motion of an object.

Third graders love to quote official things. That makes the study of the three levels of government and several periods of history very appealing. We also study map skills and geography, economics, and transportation and immigration.

Third graders read about various topics that are from many genres of literature such as: fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, and realistic fiction. Students learn to locate and gather facts from multiple sources, and we focus a lot on responding orally and in written form to questions fully and appropriately.

One of the ways our team meets the needs of individual learners is differentiated small group instruction in a spiral math curriculum. The Spiral Approach is a technique of teaching that revisits concepts each time at a higher level. We have found this increases student interest and retention of math concepts.

Special Events
Third graders at Ridge Meadows benefit from the plethora of school-wide events and activities such as Earth Week, Environmental Awareness Week, and Reading Week. Our field trips change from year to year to compliment various units of study. Some of our favorite excursions have been to the Human Society and the St. Louis Zoo. We have the unique privilege of a four day Challenges and Transitions field trip to Eureka High School. We work hard each day at the campus natatorium building confidence in ourselves and developing a life long interest in sports through swimming.
