Finance
In addition to receiving top marks for providing a high return on investment, the district’s conservative financial management has been recognized with a Moody's bond rating of AA2 and a Standard and Poor's rating of AAA, making Rockwood one of only 68 school districts nationwide to hold such a high, outstanding rating.
Rockwood received the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation and issuance of a school system annual budget. The Finance Department also earned the Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International.
Facilities
Rockwood is the largest school district in St. Louis County and the third largest in the state of Missouri. The district encompasses more than 150 square miles in parts of St. Louis and Jefferson Counties. Schools, buildings and fields miles cover 665 acres of ground. District facilities include 3.2 million square feet of buildings .
Technology
Rockwood works to provide technology systems and services that support our mission of ensuring all students realize their potential.
Classroom technologies include interactive whiteboards (SMART Boards™), amplification systems, student response systems, and wireless access. All students have access to Internet connected computers (desktops and laptops) – with a goal of a 2:1 student-to-computer ratio at each school. Teachers in K-12 classrooms may participate in a two-year professional development program known as RITTS (Rockwood Instructional Technology Teaching Strategies) to enhance teaching strategies integrating technology. RITTS is based on the nationally recognized eMINTS instructional model that strives to engage students and enrich teaching.
Rockwood also invests in up-to-date systems to support student achievement and strengthen the home-school connection. These systems include a robust Assessment System, a web-based Student Information System that includes a parent and student portal for access to grades, attendance and more, and a Child Nutrition System that enables parents to see student meal choices and make online payments.
Child Nutrition Services
The Rockwood School District participates in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. This allows families the opportunity to apply for Free and Reduced Price Meal Benefits.
The district also works to provide students with healthy, nutrient-rich food offerings and in 2011, thirteen schools were recognized for their efforts to create healthier school environments through the promotion of nutrition and physical activity. Transportation Services
Rockwood contracts school bus services through First Student, Inc.. School buses travel more than 5 million miles and transport more than 12,000 students each year. Learn more about school bus safety in Rockwood.
Early Childhood Services
More than 2,800 families are enrolled in Parents as Teachers, a nationally recognized program for children from birth to 5 years old. All Rockwood resident families and expectant parents are able to use these services.
Almost one thousand children are enrolled in Rockwood preschools located at two centers and in schools within various communities. Each year, Rockwood conducts more than 3,200 developmental screenings for children in the early years.
