Eighth-grade students at Rockwood Valley Middle School learned about the media industry with the help of Y98 radio personality Guy Phillips on Feb. 3. During his presentation, Phillips explained his typical day, described the radio studio and shared stories from his experiences working in the industry.
In addition, he
talked about the importance of helping others, which is a message teachers and staff work to convey to students every day.
Organized by teacher Sally Starzyk, Phillips’ presentation complemented classroom material on media and advertising. “This presentation was a fantastic way for students to learn from an industry professional,” said Starzyk. “Students responded well to his presentation; it helped enhance their understanding.”
In the coming weeks, students will also be exposed to other professions through the school’s career fair as well as an upcoming presentation given by a television broadcaster.
