About Student Intervention Services
Student Intervention Services (SIS) was created with the intent to provide support to Rockwood schools, students and families. The department offers sound, research-based instructional and intervention strategies designed to improve overall student performance.
In the spirit of Rockwood's mission, we do whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential. Rockwood's Student Intervention Services team provides important components to the educational environment:
-
Coordinates and provides training for ADA (American Disabilities Act) 504 compliance, which ensures support services needed to address barriers to improved academic performance.
- Provides information, consultation and direct coaching on effective screening and intervention practices for all schools.
-
Leads the collaborative development of Rockwood's RtI process, including the co-facilitation of the RtI committee with the Director of Data Analysis and Quality Management.
Special Education Services with Special School District
Rockwood and Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD) work cohesively to ensure the best possible education for all students.
In collaboration with the Rockwood School District, SSD provides technical education and a wide variety of individualized educational and support services, designed to ensure the student's successful contribution to our community.
About 97 percent of our students who receive special education services attend Rockwood schools. Although SSD oversees the legalities of IEPs, compliance, and service delivery, these students receive instruction and interventions from both SSD teachers and Rockwood teachers. Please contact your school's SSD Area Coordinator regarding questions specific to special education.

About Response to Intervention (RtI)
RtI is a structure to enhance instructional effectiveness through the use of evidence-based practice, systematic data collection and data-based decision making. The framework is a tiered model of providing intervention services to students that is systematic and data-driven. The level or intensity of the intervention is based upon the specific academic or behavioral needs of the student. Student progress is monitored during all points in the system in order to provide information on the response of the student to the intervention implemented.

As Rockwood moves toward implementation of RtI, the partnership with SSD will continue to strengthen.
