ARRIVAL TIME FOR STUDENTS
Students should not arrive at school before 8:10 a.m. unless attending Adventure Club. Students arriving before that time may interrupt valuable teacher planning time and staff meetings.
DISMISSAL
The school office needs a note for any change in a student’s dismissal. If your child is walking home or riding a bicycle instead of taking the bus home, we must have a note from you. You need to inform us if you intend to pick your child up at the end of the day. We will accept a one-time note if your child is to be picked up by a daycare center van. You may send a note for the year or any length of time you desire, but the note needs to be specific.
EARLY DISMISSAL AND LATE ARRIVALS
Sometimes it is necessary for a parent/guardian to pick up a child during the school day for dental or doctor appointments, etc. In such circumstances, parents/guardians must check in at the office and sign the student out. Students who are returned to school after their appointments, or students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:23 a.m., must have their parents/guardian sign them in.
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING
School may be closed due to inclement weather under two separate situations.
Prior to the opening of school, the closing is effective for an entire day. Prior to the end of the day when conditions merit an early dismissal may be announced. When school is dismissed early due to emergency weather conditions, the decision will depend upon the situation. However, it is recognized that activating the transportation system takes time. If it appears possible that this procedure will be implemented, when such a decision is under consideration, parents are encouraged to pick up students at their earliest convenience.
The order of dismissal shall be as follows:
- All elementary students who walk to and from school and all students who are to be picked up by parents.
- High school students who ride Laidlaw buses and all students who ride Atlantic Express.
- All Senior High students who drive or walk.
- Middle School students who ride Laidlaw buses.
- Elementary students who ride Laidlaw buses.
- Lunch will be served; if possible.
- A decision on afternoon kindergarten will be made as early as possible to avoid confusion. If those routes have been started before a decision can be made, they will be completed before students of any age are sent home.
Procedures for early dismissal for Adventure Club children are in the Adventure Club Parent Handbook.
