A Message from the Superintendent: Adequate Yearly Progress
State education officials are releasing preliminary results to school districts from the spring 2011 Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) this week. Results from these tests are used in determining adequate yearly progress (AYP). These AYP results are part of the federal law called No Child Left Behind.
MAP scores are one of many measures our schools and district use to demonstrate our students’ progress toward meeting increasingly rigorous academic goals. Overall, Rockwood’s MAP scores are higher than state averages. I’m proud of the gains our students made in mathematics during the 2010-2011 school year, as well the district’s higher attendance and graduation rates. Please take a moment to read my letter to parents about Rockwood’s results.
You can find 2011 AYP data on the state’s education website. Review the scores for your school. Learn about the high standards set by the state of Missouri. We encourage you to increase your understanding of the MAP tests. As we begin the new school year, I invite you to become an active volunteer at school, while keeping your child engaged in learning at home with reading and math activities. Rockwood values our parents and recognizes the importance of home, school and community connections.
There is an Advantage to being a part of the Rockwood School District. We are a leader in education with high levels of student achievement, outstanding teachers and staff and great community support. We will continue to monitor our progress for continuous improvement through the implementation of our comprehensive school improvement plan. Our focus remains on doing whatever it takes to ensure all students realize their potential.
