A vital component to any school is its PTO. Parental participation is the best way to show support for your child’s school and teachers. In order for a child to have a positive experience during their education, we believe they must feel supported, safe, and confident. Your involvement and presence at school helps the school administrators and staff maintain a healthy school environment. It shows that you value your child’s education.
The Westridge PTO sponsors fundraisers with all proceeds returned to the school to directly benefit the students. A new playground, Smart Boards, the Reading Store, computers, student competitions, communication folders, and field trips that otherwise might not have been available, have all been purchased with these funds. Our community involvement includes D.A.R.E. and P.I.E. programs designed to enhance our children’s curriculum.
Westridge Elementary benefits greatly from our PTO, but so can you, as parents. It can provide an excellent forum for parental concerns and issues, a communication and support network for sharing ideas, and a wonderful way to meet other parents and families. You can be part of a support committee, WE Care, which provides meals for Westridge families struggling with medical issues. Parents also have the opportunity to demonstrate appreciation for Westridge teachers and staff by volunteering in classrooms and providing home cooked meals on two conference nights. Involvement in PTO can also lead to membership on various Rockwood District committees that need and value the presence and input of parents.
Your PTO cannot survive without active parental support. We welcome and encourage participation from all parents. Meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Westridge library. To help make it easier for single parent families and to promote dual parent involvement, we also offer free babysitting at each meeting. You matter to your fellow parents, to the Westridge staff, and to your child. Please come and support Westridge Elementary and our students!
We wish you and your child a successful and productive school year!
